Our Philosophy

We put a strong focus on education aboard the Indy II. Unlike many other charter boats where the customers main job is just to reel, aboard the Indy II you can be involved with every step in the process of offshore sport fishing, if you so desire. You have the option to be as “hands on” or “hands off” as you want.

  • On our way out we will review you the latest satellite temperature charts and lasted reports and explain where we are going, and more importantly, how the captain decided on that destination.
  • On our way out we will discuss the tell tail signs we are looking for (using the temperature gauge, fishfinder, radar and our eyes)
  • When we arrive, you will learn why we put out that particular trolling pattern on that particular day and throughout the day we will tell you the reasons for any changes (we are always tweaking the pattern)
  • Where each lure, ballyhoo or spreader bar should be placed in the pattern
  • How to rig up ballyhoo and trolling lures
  • And much, much more…

Captain Lee J. Gamboni

Capt. Lee Gamboni has been fishing his entire life. He started out freshwater fishing for bass in a small pond near his home. From there it was inshore striper, bluefish and fluke trips along the jersey coast. It was not soon after that a very young Lee began making runs with his friends in his 17 foot boat out to chicken canyon and the tip of the Hudson looking for big makos and tuna (using every drop of fuel that little boat would hold). Then he hooked his first big mako, and has been in love with offshore fishing – chasing tuna, makos and marlin - ever since.

Today, his favorite thing to do is fish the shelf after the big tuna, marlin and makos that live there.

Whether offshore or inshore, tournament or fun fishing, you’re sure to have a great, informative experience with Capt. Lee aboard the Indy II.

Captain Mike Montorio

In addition to New Jersey, Capt. Mike has fished the East Coast from New England to Florida as well as the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii. During college he worked as a mate on several Point Pleasant/Belmar party and charter boats as well as running his own boat. Mike earned his Captain’s license and began running a private charter boat on his own. His proven record for success includes winning or placing in several tournaments from local Fluke contests to high dollar Shark and Marlin events.

Capt. Mike currently runs his own environmental consulting and contracting firm as well as continuing his passion for fishing. He is a veteran fisherman with extensive knowledge and pleasant willingness to provide friendly service to all charter customers. With the great sportfishing available in New Jersey waters, he is sure to make your trip an enjoyable one. Whether the battle is with tough bluefish, an acrobatic mako shark, or a speedy tuna, memories of an unforgettable experience are waiting for you.

Mate Donald "Bob" Parish

The newest member to team Indy, Bob is more dedicated to putting fish in the box then anyone you’ll find out at sea. He has been fishing offshore most of his life and nothing gets him more excited than having his custom spread covered up in a wide open tuna bite. Bob is never sitting still on a trip. He is constantly tweaking the pattern until he finds the perfect combination of lures and bait on that particular day.  He is well versed in the rigging of natural baits such as ballyhoo, mackerel, squid, bluefish and many other bait we use in the northeast. Bob is also an experienced tournament fisherman. It is his attention to detail, upbeat attitude and devotion to the “Indy Philosophy” that will ensure your trip is enjoyable, educational and successful.
